Let me start off by saying that I personally don’t believe a person’s personal political beliefs should be discussed on social media. Unless, of course, that person is looking for a heated debate that may result in being unfollowed or unfriended. I’ve seen it first hand where political posts and discussions on social media get out of hand and people’s feelings get hurt. In the event a person were to administer a political survey amongst friends that share the same political views, I do not believe that she would have a valid outcome because the people with similar views would got into the survey with a closed mind. Using social media as a platform for surveys has its’ pros and cons. I feel that social media should be used sparingly, depending on what the survey is trying to determine. If the survey is a simple one such as determining what laundry detergent a family uses, then yes. But if the survey is to determine more debatable information such as a person’s political beliefs or religious preferences, then no. Surveys involving more intense subject topics should be conducted in a more controlled environment.
